Resum: The Dialogi of Pope Gregory the Great (590–604) are a valuable source for examining the different types of healing miracles performed by saints in the early Middle Ages. This article explores the emotional dynamics associated with the healing of certain disabilities. In Gregory's work, references to both disability and emotion serve as literary topoi employed to reinforce his moral message to his audience. Given the strong link between illness and miracles in the early medieval hagiographic tradition, disability could be widely appreciated by the pope as one of those particular conditions in which the healing performed by a saint could have a strong impact on the faithful.
