Resum: This paper examines some connections between Orphic cosmological ideas, particularly the Cosmic Egg, and Greek alchemical traditions. Beginning with the seventh-century Byzantine alchemist Christianos, who systematically employed eggs as symbols for elemental quadripartition in his combinatorial analysis of alchemical procedures, this study traces how the Orphic Cosmic Egg – representing universal unity composed of four elements – possibly influenced other alchemical works. Analysis of alchemical texts, manuscript iconography, and a specific Orphic cosmogony – the one from the Clementine Homilies – eveals possible traces of connections between Orphic religious thought and early alchemical practices.
